What If OFA Emails Told The Truth, Installment 2

Today, the Obama Campaign released a fundraising email with the subject line “The numbers out of Florida” that claimed that Republicans are going to “smear their way to the White House.” This is how their email should have read if accurate:

Friend —

I’m not going to beat around the bush. Take a look at these quotes from respected journalists and then support a much different kind of presidential campaign.

Here’s just a sample of what has been said:

The Washington Post’s Ruth Marcus: “Forget hope and change. President Obama’s reelection campaign is going to be based on fear and loathing.”

Time’s Mark Halperin: “Barack Obama’s campaign and allies will run more negative ads against this Republican nominee in 2012 than have ever been run in the history of the world.”

The New York Times’ Jim Rutenberg: “If 2008 was about lifting Mr. Obama up, 2012 will have at least some strong element of dragging down his Republican opponent.”

That’s ugly, and it tells us a lot about what to expect from The President. He’s going to try to spend and smear their way to the White House.

These negative attacks can dominate the airwaves, but what they can’t do is mobilize volunteers on the ground.

We’re doing this the wrong way — will you help?

Remember, Obama himself put it best when he said in politics: “If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. You make a big election about small things.”

Thanks,
